We were both practicing out of state when we [my business partner and I] decided to build an independent interventional radiology practice in Michigan. That is not a common thing to do, and there was no obvious template for it.

Mirlo took it seriously from the beginning. They learned what we needed clinically before they showed us anything, and they were patient with a process that involved us flying in, touring, flying home, and doing it again.

The part I’ll remember is what happened when our first deal fell apart. We had put months into that space – drawings, budgets, a fully negotiated lease, everything agreed on both sides. Then we sat waiting on an approval, and waited, and nobody could get a straight answer about why it was taking so long. All of us were exasperated by the end of it. When the answer finally came, it caught everyone off guard – us, Mirlo, and the developer. Mirlo did not flinch. They were straight with us about what had happened, they did not oversell how quickly we could recover, and they went back to work immediately. Nobody wasted our time explaining why it wasn’t their fault.

We’re open in Novi, in a space that’s better than what we lost, and we got there far faster than we had any right to expect. I’m grateful for how they handled the hard part, not just the easy part.

Starting an independent interventional radiology practice is difficult under any circumstances. Doing it in a market where neither of us was living at the time added a layer that had nothing to do with medicine.

We needed someone on the ground who understood both the real estate and what a procedural practice actually requires. Mirlo was that for us. They searched wider than we thought was necessary -more properties, more configurations than our plan called for – and at the time I wondered whether it was overkill.
It wasn’t. When our primary deal fell through late in the process, thankfully their research had been comprehensive, so we didn’t have to start over from scratch. The alternative was already identified and already understood. The terms came together quickly, they walked us through space planning and helped us interview contractors, and the whole thing moved.

What I appreciated throughout is that they told us what they actually thought. When something wasn’t right, they said so, even when saying so meant more work for them.

Radiant Vascular Institute is open, the space is exactly what we wanted, and we’re seeing patients in a practice we built ourselves. We’re grateful to have had them alongside us for it.
